The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" emerged.

This encompassed attempting to break his ankle monitor and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a document approving the detention, the judge said intelligence from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the gathering called by his child.

His son, his son Flávio, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.

His son wrote on social media on Friday: Will you battle for your nation, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your couch? I call on you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so backers could "pray for his health and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of Justice Moraes's determination was the potential of Bolsonaro's "relocation to diplomatic missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a history of arranging to seek refuge through a diplomatic representation", a announcement said.

The legal document emphasizes that the American diplomatic mission in the capital, Brasilia, is positioned around 8 miles from his dwelling.

Global Responses

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow conservative nationalist American leader Trump, prompting him to enact a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.

He is being kept in a national police facility in Brasilia and will undergo a detention review on Sunday.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on last Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the Top Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with digital surveillance.

They also petitioned that he be authorized to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he required ongoing care for lung conditions and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was determined responsible of heading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Top judicial officials said that he was aware of a plan which involved plans to kill the current president and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to detain and kill Justice Moraes - the top judicial official who has been overseeing his judicial proceedings.

The scheme was stopped because it didn't receive the support of the military leaders. Lula was sworn in without incident on January 1st, 2023.

But a week later, on 8 January, numerous his backers invaded and destroyed government buildings in the capital, Brazil's capital.

The police stepped in and around approximately 1,500 persons were taken into custody.

The judges found that the demonstrators had been provoked by Bolsonaro whose plan, they said, was for the Brazilian military to intervene, reestablish control and return him to office.

At the time, the legal team called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also barred from seeking elected position until the year 2060 - eight years after the completion of his term.

The ex-leader called the trial a targeted investigation" and said it was aimed at blocking him running in the next presidential race.
